Preface: What You Will Find Here…
Hey all.
It’s me, the subject of this website. Kao at the moment is dealing with a most serious nap, and so I’ve assumed the means of production of words here, heh.
As the time of this post, we are seven days out from the launch of this site, which will be hopefully my last ever.
For anyone who is as computer illiterate as me (barely able to figure out the power button and the mouse is about as far as I can generally remember), the making of a website is never as simple an endeavor as they make it out to be. We are using Squarespace, but the idea that you can whip up a money-making website and load it with all your content in no time…
…that is a lie.
My past efforts were me just fooling around with ideas, not much different than my writing, my music, any of it. Sometimes you go nowhere, other times you just hit it and things work.
Well, after dealing with Wix, and having my longtime friend Alice recreate it for me, years later I decided to go different.
Ella is the webmistress, creator and maker of this site, and I hope you will indulge her and check out her own work here.
Why am I telling you this? For some time, Ella did not just overhaul a blank space to build a site, she’s helped me build what hopefully will finally explain just what I’ve been doing all these years.
All of my “work” over the past four decades plus is not a job to me. Radio, which you will see and hear a lot about, is a vocation that I dove into not thinking I could ever be a part of such a thing. And yet, here I am, still in it, still making a difference.
Music, and especially my literary pursuits, were in the same vein. I never believed I could do any of this. No one’s to blame for that but me; I might well have been told, “You can’t” quite often, but after a while, you suddenly realize, “We need to stop saying we can’t do things, and consider what we can do.”
Yes, I stole that from Star Trek VI, so sue me. But that character’s comment was spot on; what we can, not can’t.
An old instructor of mine said, “There is no such thing as can’t.” He was right.
So yeah, I hope you will poke around, listen to what I offer, things I’ve done, and things I am going to do.
This isn’t a Shopify site, either; you will find the links to my books, and if you like what you see and read, I hope you will find something I’ve done compelling enough for you take a leap of faith.
We do that in everything we take up, and not necessarily in any way but one: we are offering up what we have, and we hope you like it.
I also hope to bring to you that this site was a labor of love for Ella, and for me, I had to answer at-times uncomfortable questions about myself, so she could proceed.
I do these things because I love them, and enjoy them. I hope you pick up on that.
And it still beats working.
Peace, Out.
